Users can access an English-language beta version of Microsoft Office Live Workspace from the company's Web site at no charge.

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) said Tuesday it has made available for worldwide public testing a hosted version of its widely used Microsoft Office productivity software.

As part of the trial, users can access an English-language beta version of Microsoft Office Live Workspace, as the offering is called, from the company's Web site at no charge. Microsoft for the past several months has conducted a private beta program for Office Live that's drawn more than 100,000 participants, according to the company.

Office Live Workspace lets users store and access Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office applications on the Web through any computer with an Internet connection -- even if the PC isn't running Office on its hard drive.

That means a mobile worker could, say, create a Word document at his or her office, upload it to the service, and then access it later from virtually any PC.

Without Office Live, that same worker would have to carry the file around on a flash device or e-mail it to himself. Still, the document could only be downloaded and opened on a computer running a Word-compatible application.

Office Live could also eliminate the insecure practice -- often used by executives on the go -- of downloading files to a public computer. Office Live users can store more than 1,000 documents on the service and also grant access authorization to their files to business colleagues and other third parties.

Office Live Workspace is part of the software-plus-services strategy that Microsoft unveiled last year. The campaign is meant to bolster the company's presence in the booming Web services market while protecting its multibillion-dollar packaged software franchise.

The effort has seen Microsoft roll out a number of Web services under its Windows Live brand, including an online storage site called SkyDrive and a social networking site called Spaces.

Microsoft's assault on the Web is in no small part a response to advances by archrival Google. In recent months, the search engine company has introduced a host of new online services. Of those, the biggest threat to Microsoft is Google Apps. The offering features free or low-cost versions of Office-style productivity applications that are hosted on the Web.

The advantage of Google (NSDQ: GOOG)'s approach is that, unlike Office Live, users don't need to purchase any pricey boxed software for the service to work. The downside is that users for the most part can't get to the applications without an Internet connection.

Microsoft said it plans to roll out Office Live beta programs in languages other than English in the coming weeks

Sony Ericsson execs call the X1 a "premium" convergence device and warn that it won't be cheap.

Joaquim P. Menezes, IT Business.ca

Sony Ericsson execs call it a "premium" convergence device and forewarn that it won't be cheap.

But they promise the Xperia X1 mobile phone will be worth every cent you spend on it.

That, of course, is an assertion that is yet to be verified as the device will only be available in North America in the second half of 2008.

However, the information and preview provided during the product's launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday created a buzz that resonated across the Web.

One commentator hailed Xperia X1 as the new reference in terms of productivity and entertainment, and "the most exciting Windows Mobile phone since the Blackjack 2."

Another observed that X1's "luscious aluminum shell" and "amazingly sharp display" would "put Apple's [iPhone] to shame."

And it went on and on.

Market Position

Sony Ericsson itself is positioning Xperia X1 is a "game changing device" that that will take convergence to new levels.

The company is avoiding use of the term "smart phone", according Suzanne Cross, head product marketing manager for Sony Ericsson North America.

Features

But she and other company execs indicate that convergence -- a blending entertainment and productivity features -- is at the very heart of Xperia X1.

The features run the gamut -- from entertainment and multimedia applications, to Web access, personal organizer-type capabilities, and a variety of communication options.

Sony Ericsson has gone the length with this device including a high-resolution touch screen quad-band GSM/EDGE, on board Wi-Fi for short-range networking, GPS for route finding, FM Radio and Bluetooth.

The X1's Internet connectivity features are superior to any mobile phone Sony-Ericsson has ever produced to date.

It offers HSUPA (High Speed Upload Packet Access) that transmits video and other media almost as quickly as it comes downstream -- a feature is not available in some of the most advanced 3G phones.

And powering all these features is a 520-MHz ARM11 processor running Windows Mobile 6.

Bottomline, the XPERIA X1 is being positioned -- not just as a consumer or a productivity device, but one that offers you the best of both worlds -- a "wicked" entertainment appliance, yet loaded with productivity features that the most fastidious mobile professional could use very effectively in an enterprise context.

TALK ABOUT HUMILITY

   warren buffet

There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity.

Here are some very interesting aspects of his life:

1. He bought his first share of stock at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late!

2. He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers.

3. He still lives in the same, small 3-bedroom house in midtownOmaha, that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence.

4. He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him.

5. He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company.

6. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis He has given his CEO's only two rules. Rule number 1: Do not lose any of your shareholder's money. Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1.

7. He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His pastime   after he gets home is to make himself some popcorn and watch television.

8. Bill Gates, the world's richest man, met him for the first time only 5 years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with Warren Buffet. So, he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But when Gates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became a devotee of Warren Buffet.

9. Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk.

His advice to young people: 'Stay away from credit cards and invest in yourself,  and remember:

A. Money doesn't create man, but it is the man who created money

B. Live your life as simple as you are.

C. Don't do what others say. Just listen to them, but do what makes you feel good.

D. Don't go on brand name. Wear those things in which you feel comfortable.

E. Don't waste your money on unnecessary things. Spend on those who really are in need.

F. After all, it's your life. Why give others the chance to rule it  ?

Britney Spears blew a red light at a notoriously dangerous Los Angeles intersection Thursday night, with her two young sons in the back and a

court-appointed monitor crouched down in the front, TMZ reported .

britney 1

Spears approached the light slowly on Coldwater Canyon in Los Angeles, then raised her cell phone to her face before driving into the intersection as someone outside the car screams, "Red light, red light!" Spears then turns left onto Mulholland Drive, managing to miss oncoming traffic, TMZ reported .

This could spell more trouble for Spears. L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon recently temporarily revoked her visitation rights because she was driving without a valid California license .

On Thursday, Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan asked the commissioner to forbid Spears from driving when her kids are in the car. The judge said he would rule on that on Nov. 26

Federline currently has temporary custody of Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, because Spears has defied court orders .

Ahmadinejad's allies struggle in Iran elections

By Edmund Blair Sun Dec 17, 11:07 AM ET

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's allies failed to dominate elections for a powerful Iranian clerical body and local councils, early results showed on Sunday, in what analysts said was a setback to the president's standing.

Friday's twin elections for the clerical Assembly of Experts and local councils, the first nationwide vote since Ahmadinejad took office in 2005, will not directly impact policy.

But turnout of around 60 percent and Ahmadinejad's close identification with some candidates, particularly in Tehran, suggested a shift toward more moderate policies and away from the president's ultra-conservative line.

Although not

Iran's most powerful figure, Ahmadinejad's anti-
Israel and anti-Western statements alarm the West, which fears Iran is seeking an atomic bomb despite Tehran's denials.

"The results show that voters have learned from the past and concluded that we need to support ... moderate figures," the daily Kargozaran said in an editorial.

Kargozaran is close to former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, a moderate cleric who state media said led the count in Tehran for the Assembly of Experts. Rafsanjani lost to Ahmadinejad in the 2005 presidential race.

Lower down the list but still with enough votes to retain a seat, was Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Mesbah-Yazdi, a firebrand cleric who advocates cultural isolation from the West and is widely seen as the spiritual mentor of Ahmadinejad.

Two candidates, identified by clerics as Mesbah-Yazdi allies, were out of the running in Tehran, the official IRNA news agency said. Three Mesbah-Yazdi supporters lost in other regions though at least one was known to have secured a seat.

"This is a blow for Ahmadinejad and Mesbah-Yazdi's list," said one political analyst, who declined to be quoted by name.

"NO TO RADICALS"

The Assembly of Experts has more power than the president or parliament because it supervises the supreme leader. But conservative clerics have tended to keep it out of everyday politics and analysts say this is likely to remain the case.

Friday's main battleground was Tehran City Council, where Ahmadinejad supporters competed against backers of a more moderate conservative, Tehran mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

Final results for Tehran are not expected until Tuesday but partial tallies reported by Iranian news agencies showed Qalibaf's group dominating with about nine of the 15 seats.

The rest were split between Ahmadinejad backers and the pro-reform camp, seeking a comeback after being routed in a series of polls.

Reformists said they had won at least six Tehran seats, and demanded election officials announce the results. They said the delay raised questions about the counting process.

"We have serious doubts about whether these problems are due to a lack of organization at the Interior Ministry or whether there are some efforts to tamper with votes," Mohammad Ali Najafi, a reformist candidate in Tehran, told Reuters.

Analysts said the outcome could boost moderate conservatives who say Ahmadinejad is trying to monopolize power around his close allies and ignoring the rest of the conservative camp.

"It is a signal for Ahmadinejad," said conservative commentator Amir Mohebian, .who added that the president was still popular in the provinces

In a California zoo, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs.  Unfortunately, due to pregnancy complications, the cubs were born prematurely and died shortly after birth.  Mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly  started to decline in health, although physically fine.   The vets felt that the loss of her litter had caused her to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if she could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would
improve.

After checking with many other zoos, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age  to introduce to the tiger mother. The vets decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment.  Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of  wiener pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in  tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.      .The results

Halloween is an annual celebration, but just what is it actually a celebration of? And how did this peculiar custom originate? Is it, as some claim, a kind of demon worship? Or is it just a harmless vestige of some ancient pagan ritual?

The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, "All Hollows Day" (or "All Saints Day"), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints. But, in the 5th century BC, in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The holiday was called Samhain (sow-en), the Celtic New year.

One story says that, on that day, the disembodied spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. It was believed to be their only hope for the afterlife. The Celts believed all laws of space and time were suspended during this time, allowing the spirit world to intermingle with the living.

1

Naturally, the still-living did not want to be possessed. So on the night of October 31, villagers would extinguish the fires in their homes, to make them cold and undesirable. They would then dress up in all manner of ghoulish costumes and noisily paraded around the neighborhood, being as destructive as possible in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess.

Probably a better explanation of why the Celts extinguished their fires was not to discourage spirit possession, but so that all the Celtic tribes could relight their fires from a common source, the Druidic fire that was kept burning in the Middle of Ireland, at Usinach.

Some accounts tell of how the Celts would burn someone at the stake who was thought to have already been possessed, as sort of a lesson to the spirits. Other accounts of Celtic history debunk these stories as myth.

2

The Romans adopted the Celtic practices as their own. But in the first century AD, Samhain was assimilated into celebrations of some of the other Roman traditions that took place in October, such as their day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple, which might explain the origin of our modern tradition of bobbing for apples on Halloween.

The thrust of the practices also changed over time to become more ritualized. As belief in spirit possession waned, the practice of dressing up like hobgoblins, ghosts, and witches took on a more ceremonial role.

The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1840's by Irish immigrants fleeing their country's potato famine. At that time, the favorite pranks in New England included tipping over outhouses and unhinging fence gates.

3

The custom of trick-or-treating is thought to have originated not with the Irish Celts, but with a ninth-century European custom called souling. On November 2, All Souls Day, early Christians would walk from village to village begging for "soul cakes," made out of square pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors. At the time, it was believed that the dead remained in limbo for a time after death, and that prayer, even by strangers, could expedite a soul's passage to heaven.

The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the tree's trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.

According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil. Instead, the devil gave him a single ember to light his way through the frigid darkness. The ember was placed inside a hollowed-out turnip to keep it glowing longer.

The Irish used turnips as their "Jack's lanterns" originally. But when the immigrants came to America, they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips. So the Jack-O-Lantern in America was a hollowed-out pumpkin, lit with an ember.

4

So, although some cults may have adopted Halloween as their favorite "holiday," the day itself did not grow out of evil practices. It grew out of the rituals of Celts celebrating a new year, and out of Medieval prayer rituals of Europeans. And today, even many churches have Halloween parties or pumpkin carving events for the kids. After all, the day itself is only as evil as one cares to make it

Birth Test

Once you have discovered your Birth Number, forward this email to
the rest of your friends. Put
your number in the Subject and Pass it on!

Have fun! Your birth date describes who we are, what we are good at
and what our inborn abilities are. It also points to what we have to
learn and the challenges we are facing.

To figure out your Birth Number, add all the numbers in the birth
date together, like in the example, until there is only one digit.

A Birth Number does not prevent you from being anything you want to be,
it will just color your choice differently and give you a littleinsight.

Example: March 20, 1950
3 + 20 + 1950 = 1973

============ ========= ========= ========= ========= ========= ==
# 1 - THE ORIGINATOR: 1 's are originals. Coming up with new ideas
and executing them is natural. Having things their own way is another
trait that gets them as being stubborn and arrogant. 1's are extremely
honest and do well to learn some
diplomacy skills. They like to take
the initiative and are often leaders or bosses, as they like to be the
best.
Being self-employed is definitely helpful for them. Lesson to learn:
Others' ideas might be just as good or better and to stay open minded.
Famous 1's: Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Hulk Hogan, Carol Burnett,
Wynona Judd, Nancy Reagan, Raquel Welch.

#2 - THE PEACEMAKER: 2's are the born diplomats. They are aware of
others' needs and moods and often think of others before
themselves.Naturall yanalytical and very intuitive, they don't like to
be alone.
Friendship and companionship is very important and can lead them to be
successful in life, but on the other hand they'd rather be alone than
in anuncomfortable
relationship. Being naturally shy they
should learn to boost their self-esteem and express themselves
freely and seize the moment and not put things off.
Famous 2's: President Bill Clinton, Madonna, Whoopee Goldberg, Thomas
Edison, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

# 3 - THE LIFE OF THE PARTY: 3's are idealists. They are very creative,
social, charming, romantic, and easygoing. They start many things, but
don't always see them through. They like others to be happy and go to
great lengths to achieve it. They are very popular and idealistic. They
should learn to see the world from a more realistic point of view.
Famous 3's: Alan Alda, Ann Landers, Bill Cosby, Melanie Griffith,
Karen Roundbutt, Salvador Dali, Jodi Foster

# 4 - THE CONSERVATIVE: 4's are sensible and traditional. They like
order and routine. They only act when they fully understand what they
are
expected to do. Theylike getting their hands dirty and working hard.
They are attracted to the outdoors and feel an affinity with nature. They
are prepared to
wait and can be stubborn and persistent. They should learn to be more
flexible and to be nice to themselves.
Famous 4's: Neil Diamond, Margaret Thatcher, Arnold
Schwarzenegger, Tina Turner, Paul Hogan, Oprah Winfrey

# 5 - THE NONCONFORMIST: 5's are the explorers! Their natural
curiosity, risk taking, and enthusiasm often land them in hot water.
They need diversity, and don't like to be stuck in a rut. The whole
world is their school and they see a learning possibility in every
situation. The questions never stop. They are well advised to look
before they take action and make sure they have all the facts before
jumping to conclusions.
Famous 5's: Abraham Lincoln, Charlotte Bronte, Jessica Walter,
Vincent Van Gogh, Bette Midler, Helen Keller and Mark Hail.

# 6 - THE ROMANTIC: 6's are idealistic and need to feel useful to
be happy. A strong family connection is important to them. Their
actions influence their decisions. They have a strong urge to take care
of others and to help.
They are very loyal and make great teachers. They like art or music.
They make loyal friends who take the friendship seriously.
6's should learn to differentiate between what they can change and
what they cannot.
Famous 6's: Albert Einstein, Jane Seymour, John
Denver, Merlyn Steep, Christopher Columbus, Goldie Hawn.

#7 - THE INTELLECTUAL: 7's are the searchers. Always probing for
hidden information, they find it difficult to accept things at face
value. Emotions don't sway their decisions. Questioning everything in
life,
theydon't like to be questioned themselves. They're never off to a
fast start, and their motto is slow and steady wins the race. They
come across as philosophers and being very knowledgeable, and sometimes
as loners. They are technically inclined and make great
researchers uncovering information. They like secrets. They live in
their own
world and should learn what is acceptable and what is not in the world at
large.
Famous 7's: William Shakespeare, Lucille Ball, Michael Jackson,
Joan Baez, Princess Diana

# 8 - THE BIG SHOT: 8's are the problem solvers. They are
professional, blunt and to the point, have good judgment and are
decisive. They have grand plans and like to live the good life. They
take charge of people. They view people objectively. They let you know
in no uncertain terms that they are the boss.
They should learn to exude their decisions on their own needs rather
than on what others want.
Famous 8's: Edgar Cayce, Barbara Streisand, George Harrison, Jane
Fonda, Pablo Picasso, Aretha Franklin, Nostrodamus

#9 - THE PERFORMER: 9's are natural entertainers. They are very caring
and generous, giving away their last dollar to help. With their
charm, they have no problem making friends and nobody is a stranger to
them. They have so many different personalities that people around them
have a hard time understanding them. They are like chameleons, ever
changing and blending in. They have tremendous luck, but also can
suffer from extremes in fortune and mood. To be successful! they need
to build a loving foundation.
Famous 9's: Albert Schweitzer, Shirley MacLaine, Harrison Ford, Jimmy
Carter,
Elvis Presley

A Persian grandma just came from Iran and wanted to
become a citizen in the United States. She took her
grandson with her to take her citizenship exam. The
immigration officer told the Persian woman that he had
to ask her 4 simple questions about America and if she
answers them correctly, she would become a citizen.

She Said, "Ok, but I no speak English, I bringing my
grandson."

The man said, "Ok, so he will translate.
Now for your first question...
1) What is the capital of America?
The Iranian woman's grandson told her, "Man kojaa
raftam daneshga?"
"Vashangton!!", said the grandma.

That was correct, now for question number 2...
2) When is Independence Day for America?
The Grandson Said, "Newman Marcoos kay haraaj daareh?"
"July Fourt!!", the grandma said.
Correct, now for question number 3...

3) Who ran for President this year but lost?
The grandson told his grandmother, "Oon Martikeh keh
baa dokhtareh shomaa aroosi kard, keh doosesh
nadaarin, kojaa bereh?"
She Said, "Too goooor!!!"
Wow, wonderful job, now for your final question...

4) Who is the President of the United States now?
The grandson translated, "Har vaght pesaret gooz
mideh, az chish narahat mishi?"
"Boooosh!!", grandma answered.

She is a US citizen now....

Dear Tech Support:
I am desperate for some help. I recently upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 and found that the new program began unexpected child processing and also took up a lot of space and valuable resources. This wasn't mentioned in the product brochure. In addition Wife 1.0 installs itself into all other programs and launches during system initialisation where it monitors all other system activity. Applications such as Boys Night Out 2.5, and Golf 5.3 no longer run and crash the system whenever selected. Attempting to operate Sunday Football 6.3 always fails but Saturday Shopping 7.1 runs instead. I cannot seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background whilst attempting to run any of my favourite applications.
I am thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0 but de-install doesn't work on this program.
Please help !
Louis

Dear Louis,

This is a very common problem resulting from a basic misunderstanding. Many men upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0 thinking that Wife 1.0 is merely a UTILITIES & ENTERTAINMENT program. Whereas Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM designed by its creator to run everything. You are unlikely to be able to purge Wife 1.0 and still convert back to Girlfriend 7.0 as Wife 1.0 is not designed to do this and it is impossible to de-install, delete or purge the program files from the system once installed. Some people have tried to install Girlfriend 8.0 or Wife 2.0, but have ended up with even more problems. (See in manual under Alimony/Child Support and Solicitors Fees). Having Wife 1.0 installed myself I recommend you keep it installed and deal with the difficulties as best you can. When any faults or problems occur, whatever you think has caused them, you must run the C:\ I APOLOGISE program and avoid attempting to use the *Esc-key. It ! may be necessary to run C:\ I APOLOGISE a number of times, but hopefully eventually the operating system wil1 return to normal. Wife 1.0 although a very high maintenance program can be very rewarding. To get the most out of it consider buying additional software such as Flowers 2.0 and Chocolates 5.0. Do not under any circumstances install Secretary (Short Skirt version) as this is not a supported application for Wife 1.0 and the system will almost certainly crash.

Best of luck,
Tech Support

A Short Cute Story

Father: I want you to marry a girl of my choice
Son: "I will choose my own bride!"
Father: "But the girl is Bill Gates's daughter."
Son: "Well, in that case...ok"

Next, Father approaches Bill Gates.

Father: "I have a husband for your daughter."
Bill Gates: "But my daughter is too young to marry!"
Father: "But this young man is a vice-president of

the World Bank."
Bill Gates: "Ah, in that case...ok"

Finally Father goes to see the president of the World Bank.

Father: "I have a young man to be recommended as

a vice-president."
President: "But I already have more vice- presidents

than I need!"
Father: "But this young man is Bill Gates's son-in-law."
President: "Ah, in that case...ok"

This is how business is done!!

Moral:   Even If you have nothing, You can get

Anything. But your attitude should be positive

English Translation of Rasht Azad University 81

مثال : aliyousefi_r@yahoo.com   .
